HAPPY BIRTHDAY

BUBBA
March 21

Who would have ever figured the sickly boy Bubba would have made it to the age of two years old but here he is, living it up, enjoying yoplat chocolate mousse yogurt and pumpkin seeds and hanging with his two cage mates, celebrating two years on earth, probably 23 months more than he should have been alive.

I rescued four baby boys from a terrible reptile situation (they were abused and not cared for humanely and were just going to be killed when the person got rid of his repitles) in April of '07. The four boys were in bad shape, with both respiratory problems and a bad case of ringworm (which they passed onto me). I couldn't find homes for them because of their health issues and they ended up living with me. I didn't think any of the boys would survive a week – Pip died within the first month. Fredo and Schmidty had good lives, living a year and a half.

Big Bubba has made it two years today, March 21, 2009. He has been riddled with on again/off again respiratory issues (he's on Baytril again right now) his whole life, had a detached tail issue one month a few months back, just was treated for mites (his cagemate may have them so everyone's been treated) and has had a bit of a weight problem lately but amazingly, has had a good two years of life, living on his daily veggie plate, lab blocks, rat food and occasional treats (his favorites are graham crackers and lately pumpkin seeds).  And he loves his yogurt.

Bubba was very close to his brothers and after they passed, he was by himself and didn’t get along with any rescues who came and went through here, so I thought he might spend his last days by himself. But one rescue brought through two dumbo girls, Cinnamon and Bambi (named by their original owner) and for some reason, Bubba liked them and got along with them well. In fact, he and Cinnamon are always together in one of his hammocks, or up in their box on the top floor.

Bambi and Bubba have some yoplat yogurt and noodles.

Here the same two have some green mush (and granola), one
of the foods that have definitely helped him live as long as he has.

Here's Bubba with Cinnamon and Bambi (who just
had a bath)

He loves his hammocks and blankets.

For his birthday he'll get a piece of his all time favorite treat, chocolate poptarts (just a little piece). And an extra spoonful of yoplat chocolate mousse yogurt.
